Heavener, Spiro split districts

Heavener, Spiro split district tournament championship games at Spiro Friday.

Spiro’s girls won the opener, 45-27, before Heavener’s boys won the late game, 58-53.

All four teams advance to the regional tournaments. In the winner’s bracket games, Spiro’s girls play Chandler 6 p.m. Tuesday at Beggs before Heavener’s boys take on fourth-ranked Chandler at 7:30 p.m., also at Beggs.

Heavener’s girls get a bye in the opening game of the regionals and play Friday 1 p.m. at Beggs vs. a team to be decided. Spiro’s boys take on Henryetta in a loser’s bracket game Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Sequoyah-Tahlequah.

Spiro’s girls improve to 18-5 while Heavener is 11-14. Heavener’s boys are 8-15 with Spiro dropping to 9-14.

The Lady Bulldogs increased their record to 3-0 this season against Heavener. While the two other games were close, this one wasn’t. Heavener’s boys are now 2-1 against Spiro this year, winning the last two meetings, one at Heavener then Friday at Spiro.
