Cowboys run-rule GWU
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State clinched its weekend series against Gardner-Webb with a 16-1 run-rule win in Sunday’s rubber game at O’Brate Stadium.
With the win, the Cowboys improved to 11-4, while the Runnin’ Bulldogs fell to 10-6.
Kollin Ritchie continued his scorching start to the season, homering twice in the contest and driving in five. It was his third multi-home run game of the season, and he now has 11 round trippers on the year.
Colin Bruggemann also had a big day, hitting a three-run home run as part of his own, three-hit, five-RBI game.
Mario Pesca made his fourth start of the season for the Cowboys and pitched all seven innings of one-run baseball while striking out five to earn his first win of the season.
Pesca allowed three baserunners in the first inning, but a double play and strikeout prevented any damage.
The OSU offense burst onto the scene in the first inning, with the first five hitters reaching base safely. Alex Conover led off the game with a single and was followed by Brock Thompson, who drew a walk. Ritchie then provided a big swing, smacking his 10th home run of the season to jump the Pokes out in front, 3-0. After a pair of walks to Aidan Meola and Deacon Pomeroy, Brueggemann lifted a high fly ball to the opposite field that carried over the wall for the Cowboys’ second three-run home run of the inning to make it a 6-0 game.
It was more of the same for Ritchie in the second inning as he smoked a ball that hit off the top of the batter’s eye for his second home run in as many innings. The two-run shot brought Ritchie, who entered the weekend leading the nation in RBIs, to 31 on the season.
Pesca settled in after the first inning and ended the top of the third with a strike-’em-out, throw-’em-out double play, with Campbell Smithwick erasing the runner trying to steal second base.
The Cowboys’ third three-run home run of the game came in the fourth inning, this time off the bat of Meola to put the Pokes up 11-0. The ball banged off the scoreboard in left field for Meola’s sixth homer of the season.
OSU put together its fourth multi-run inning in the fifth, scoring five more times to make it 16-0. The Pokes loaded the bases with a TP Wentworth double and a pair of walks before Meola drew another walk to plate Wentworth. Sebastian Norman and Brueggemann each had RBI singles as well.
Pesca looked destined for a seven-inning shutout, but Joe Stanzione delivered GWU’s lone run of the game with a home run to left-centerfield.
OSU concludes its nine-game homestand Tuesday when the Cowboys host Dallas Baptist. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.

Hogs dop game against Hatters
FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas. – No. 6 Arkansas (12-4) suffered a 4-1 loss against Stetson (6-10) Sunday at Baum-Walker Stadium.
The Hogs and Hatters close out their four-game set tomorrow afternoon. First pitch between Arkansas, seeking its 35th consecutive non-conference home weekend series win, and Stetson is set for noon Monday, March 9, on SEC Network+.
After Damian Ruiz led off Sunday’s game with a double, Camden Kozeal gave the Razorbacks an early lead with his one-out RBI double down the right field line in the bottom of the first. One run, however, was all Arkansas would score.
Colin Fisher, making his fourth start of the season on the mound, fired three scoreless frames before Stetson broke through in the top half of the fourth. The Razorback left-hander began his campaign with 22 consecutive scoreless frames before a leadoff home run and three-run homer later in the inning would give the Hatters a 4-1 advantage.
Stetson did not relinquish its three-run lead, as starter Trace Hartman (5.2 IP, 1 R, 4 BB, 3 SO) and reliever Andrew Lepine (2.1 IP, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 SO) combined for nine innings of one-run ball with six walks and five strikeouts. After a first inning run, the Hatter duo kept the Razorback offense off-balance for the remainder of Sunday afternoon’s ballgame.
Damian Ruiz (2-for-4, 2B) and Maika Niu (2-for-4, SB) were the lone Arkansas batters to record multi-hit games. Ryder Helfrick, meanwhile, drew a pair of walks to extend his team-leading reached base streak to 16 consecutive games.

Arkansas will throw James DeCremer (0-0, 1.17 ERA) in tomorrow’s series finale at Baum-Walker Stadium. The Razorbacks have not lost or tied a non-conference weekend series in the regular season at home since the 2014 campaign, when Arkansas dropped two-of-three games to South Alabama in their final non-conference weekend series.

STILLWATER – The No. 19 Oklahoma State softball team dropped the rubber match of its weekend series against No. 24 UCF, 6-4, Sunday afternoon at Cowgirl Stadium.

A sacrifice fly from Damon in the fifth gave the Knights their first lead of the game. UCF added another in the sixth when Samantha Rey singled home Kendall Yarnell to extend the advantage to 4-2.
Oklahoma State responded with a rally of its own in the sixth, headlined by an RBI double from Audrey Schneidmiller and a sacrifice fly from Tia Warsop that leveled the game at four.

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas. – Behind a complete-game shutout from senior LHP Robyn Herron and a grand slam from sophomore INF Ella McDowell, the No. 7/9 Arkansas Razorbacks blanked No. 12/15 Georgia, 6-0, to win the SEC opening series on Sunday afternoon at Bogle Park.
With the victory, Arkansas has improved to 21-2 overall and 2-1 in SEC play.
Herron (9-1) struck out 10 batters while allowing just three hits and three walks on her way to her ninth victory of the season. The performance marked her sixth career seven-inning complete-game shutout and her 15th career double-digit strikeout game, which moves her into second place all-time among Arkansas pitchers, trailing only Mary Haff (16, 2018-2022).
Tianna Bell opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single up the middle that scored Brinli Bain, who reached on a single, extending her reached-base streak to 23 games. McDowell then broke the game open with a grand slam in the bottom of the second inning, increasing the Hogs’ lead to 5-0 before Tianna Bell added the Hogs’ sixth and final run in the bottom of the sixth inning with a solo home run to center field.
At the plate, McDowell led the Razorbacks with four RBI, all coming on her grand slam, while Bell went 3-4 with her solo shot, a run scored and two RBI.
Randi Roelling took the loss for Georgia (19-7, 1-2 SEC), falling to 8-4 on the season after allowing four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one.
How it Happened
Herron pitched a 1-2-3 top of the first inning that featured a strikeout sandwiched between a pair of flyouts. In the home half, Brinli Bain extended her reached base streak to 23 games with a one-out single before advancing to second base on a groundout. Tianna Bell would then give Arkansas the early lead with an RBI single up the middle that plated Bain.
In the top of the second inning, Herron fanned her first two batters faced before Georgia catcher Marissa Miller doubled down the third-base line. Following the double, Herron struck out the next batter to end the frame.
Atalyia Rijo registered a leadoff single in the bottom of the second inning before advancing to second base courtesy of a bunt single from Reagan Johnson. Bain then drew her a walk to load the bases for Ella McDowell, who blasted a grand slam over the wall in left center field to give Arkansas a 5-0 lead. Dakota Kennedy later added a single in the inning.
Herron battled back from a 3-0 count to strike out the leadoff batter in the top of the third inning. Keirstin Roose would reach after being hit by a pitch with two outs, but that is all the Bulldogs would get as Herron issued a flyout to end the inning.
Atalyia Rijo and Kennedy Miller both registered one-out singles in the bottom half, but Fisher and the Bulldogs escaped unscathed courtesy of a fielder’s choice and a groundout.
In the fourth inning, Herron allowed two Bulldogs to reach courtesy of a single and a walk, but that would be the only obstacles she would encounter in her fourth scoreless frame of the day. Bell and Wyckoff both singled in the bottom of the fourth inning.
In the fifth inning, Georgia’s Emily Digby and Bailey Lindemuth would both reach to lead off the inning courtesy of a walk and a single, but Herron would be unfazed, retiring the next three batters faced courtesy of a strikeout, flyout, and groundout. Kennedy Miller would reach in the bottom of the fifth inning courtesy of a Georgia error.
During the sixth inning, Herron would pick up her eighth and ninth strikeouts while allowing one batter to reach by way of a walk. Tianna Bell added insurance with a solo home run to center field with one out in the bottom of the sixth. The solo blast was Bell’s team-leading eighth round-tripper of the season.
Herron wrapped up the complete-game shutout by facing the minimum in the top of the seventh inning. She issued a groundout to Atalyia Rijo, who made a diving play at shortstop for the first out of the frame before Lindemuth reached first base on a dropped third strike. Rijo then ended the contest by snagging a line drive and throwing out the retreating Linedmuth at first for the final two outs of the contest as Arkansas improved to 21-2 overall and 2-1 in SEC play.
