Sooners win at LSU
BATON ROUGE, Louisiana — The guard trio of Nijel Pack, Xzayvier Brown and Dayton Forsythe accounted for 17 field goals and 54 points to power Oklahoma to an 83-67 road win over LSU on Saturday evening at Pete Maravich Assembly Center. It was OU's largest victory margin in an SEC road game in its two years in the league.
The Sooners (15-14, 5-11 SEC) outshot the Tigers (15-14, 3-13) 47% to 35% from the field and 38% (10 for 26) to 26% (6 for 23) from 3-point range. They also shot a season-high 94% (17 for 18) from the free throw line in winning for the fourth time in the last six games.
Pack made five 3-pointers en route to a game-high 21 points, Brown was 6 for 10 from the field and made all six of his free throw attempts to finish with 20 points and Forsythe also went 6 for 6 from the line to score 13 off the bench.
Center Mohamed Wague registered 10 points and game highs of nine rebounds (five offensive) and three blocked shots. It marked the first time in Wague's career to score in double figures in three consecutive contests.
LSU scored the game's first five points, but OU countered with the next 10 and took a 20-11 lead 7 1/2 minutes into the game. Pack's first 3-pointer with 16:51 left in the opening half put the Sooners up for good, as they led for 36:51 on the night. Pack's second trey of the game came with three seconds left in the half and gave OU a 41-33 lead at intermission.
After the Tigers pulled to within five points at 53-48 with 13:24 to go in the second half, Oklahoma took control by mounting an 18-4 run to go up 71-52 with 7:48 remaining. Six Sooners each scored at least two points during the rally.
OU pushed its advantage to 22 points two minutes later behind back-to-back 3-pointers from Jadon Jones and Pack, and the Sooners cruised to their second win in two all-time outings at LSU. In the other meeting in Baton Rouge in the 2015-16 season, No. 1-ranked OU posted a 77-75 victory.
Pack has scored at least 20 points in six of the last 10 games and has made at least five 3-pointers in nine outings this season. Over the last five contests, he is shooting 60% (21 for 35) from 3-point distance.
Brown, who leads the SEC with his 91% free throw mark, had only attempted eight free throws over the previous eight games. Tonight marked his team-high 12th 20-plus point game of the season.
Forsythe reached double figures for the fourth time in the last six games after doing it just twice previously this season.
Oklahoma committed just eight turnovers to LSU's 10 and outscored the Tigers 13-9 off turnovers. It marked OU's third straight single-digit-turnover game and 16th of the season, most in at least the last 40 years.
OU returns to Norman for its regular season home finale against Missouri (19-9, 9-6) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT. The senior night game will be televised by ESPNU.
Arkansas Stumbles at #7 Florida
GAINESVILLE, Florida – The seventh-ranked Florida Gators had two big runs in the first half and never looked back in a 111-77 victory over #20/17 Arkansas Saturday night at Exactech Arena.
Seven Gators scored in double figures, including 22 points from Thomas Haugh, and Florida, the nation’s leading rebounding team, out-rebounded Arkansas, 51-31, thanks to Rueben Chinyelu grabbing 16 rebounds.
Arkansas, one of the nation’s leaders in assists and assist-turnover ratio, finished with 10 helpers and committed nine turnovers.
Billy Richmond III was a bright spot for Arkansas. He scored at least 20 points for the fifth-straight game, finishing with 22. He added six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Darius Acuff Jr. added 17 points and six assists,
The Razorbacks return home to host Texas on Wednesday (Mar. 4) for the program’s home finale. Tipoff versus the Longhorns is set for 6 pm.
Cowboys powers past Sam Houston
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State homered six times and extended its winning streak to six with a 20-0 victory over Sam Houston Saturday afternoon at O’Brate Stadium.
The Cowboys’ offensive output marked the first time OSU has scored 20 runs in a game since May 17, 2024, against Houston as the Pokes improved to 7-3. Sam Houston fell to 4-6.
Ethan Lund took the bump to start for the Cowboys, making his third start of the season. The left-hander was exceptional, striking out 14 over six shutout innings while picking up the win to move to 2-0.
Zane Burns and Drew Winslow combined to pitch the final three innings and strike out five as the Pokes’ pitching staff combined for 19 strikeouts.
OSU’s offense reached the double-digit mark for the fifth time this season on the backs of a three home run game from Kollin Ritchie and a five-RBI day from Brock Thompson. Ritchie is the first Cowboy to hit three home runs in a game since Nolan Schubart had a program-record four against Wichita State in 2024.
Lund started the game off by striking out three in the first inning after allowing a leadoff single. He would continue this stretch through the second and third innings, striking out nine consecutive Bearkats.
It took until the 11th out of the game for Lund to record an out that wasn’t a strikeout; he finished the fourth inning with 11 strikeouts.
The Pokes got on the board early thanks to back-to-back doubles from Alex Conover and Thompson to open the first inning against Tyler Ryden and make it a 1-0 game.
The Cowboy offense broke out in the second, putting five runs on the board and extending the lead to 6-0.
It all started on a two-out, hit-by-pitch from Brady Francisco, who was the inning’s first runner. Conover then hit a pop fly to left field that was dropped for an error to score Francisco. Following a walk to Thompson, Ritchie sent a ball over the bullpen in right field for a three-run home run. Sebastian Norman tacked on another run with a bloop single that scored Aidan Meola.
The Pokes came right back with another five-run inning in the third, again highlighted by a Ritchie home run. Conover drove in Bowen with a triple in the right-center gap and was brought in by Thompson’s second double of the day.
The Pokes put up three-run innings in both the fifth and six, with Ritchie hitting his third home run of the day in the fifth on a towering shot to right-center. Pinch hitter Deacon Pomeroy also homered in the frame, smashing the first pitch he saw in his career over the wall in left-center field.
Thompson hit his second home run of the series in the sixth inning, a three-run blast to make the score 17-0.
Danny Wallace capped off the scoring in the eighth inning with a three-run opposite field home run, the first round tripper of his career.
Sunday’s series finale is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
Sooners Take Series Over Zags
NORMAN – No. 13 Oklahoma took the series over Gonzaga Saturday afternoon in Norman with a 11-1 run-rule win in seven innings.
Starting right-handed pitcher LJ Mercurius was brilliant, hurling a complete game one-hitter while striking out nine and surrendering just one unearned run.
The offense showed off its power once again, knocking six extra-base hits including three home runs on the day. Camden Johnson ripped a ball up the alley and zoomed around the bases for an inside-the-park home run to get the Sooners on the board in the third inning before Nolan Stevens and Trey Gambill went yard in the fourth inning.
OU (10-1) was powered by a six-run fourth inning and three-run seventh that saw Johnson lace a walk-off RBI single to center field to end the game by mercy rule.
Hogs Even Series against Mavericks
FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – Hunter Dietz fired a career-long seven shutout innings with eight strikeouts to power No. 6 Arkansas (8-3) to a 9-0 shutout win against UT Arlington (3-7) Saturday afternoon at Baum-Walker Stadium.
With the win, the Hogs evened the series with the Mavericks at one game apiece. Arkansas, winners of 33 consecutive non-conference home weekend series, will go for the series win in tomorrow’s finale, which is now scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday on SEC Network+ after being moved up from 1 p.m. due to anticipated rain in the forecast.
Dietz, who logged his first career quality start in the outing, helped the Razorback pitching staff secure its third shutout of the season in the combined two-hitter. True freshman Mark Brissey relived Dietz and closed out the Hogs’ two-hitter, Arkansas’ first since Zach Root (7.0 IP) & Gabe Gaeckle (2.0 IP) did so against Tennessee on June 7, 2025, in the NCAA Fayetteville Super Regional, with a career high-tying two scoreless innings and a career high-matching three strikeouts.
Through his first three starts of the season, Dietz owns a 1-1 record with a 4.15 ERA and a team-leading 22 strikeouts in 13.0 innings of work on mound. Opposing hitters are batting a meager .200 against the hard-throwing left-hander.
Offensively, Arkansas’ bats came alive for nine runs on 12 hits, including two home runs. Nolan Souza and Damian Ruiz each collected RBI singles in the bottom of the second inning to give the Hogs an early 2-0 lead before Zack Stewart’s RBI sacrifice fly and Maika Niu’s three-run homer in the bottom of the third inning extended the advantage to six runs.
The Razorbacks and Mavericks exchanged zeroes for the next four frames before Camden Kozeal launched a three-run shot, his team-leading fifth homer of the campaign, with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to put Arkansas ahead 9-0. Through 10 games played this season, Kozeal is slashing .368/.478/.842 with five homers and a team-high 13 RBI.
Kozeal (2-for-5, R, HR, 3 RBI) was one of four Razorbacks to record a multi-hit game in Saturday’s ballgame. Ruiz (2-for-4, R, RBI), Reese Robinett (2-for-4, 2 R) and Niu (2-for-4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI) each turned in multi-hit performances in the win.

This day is also notable for significant births. Among those born on March 1 are Frederic Chopin, the renowned Polish composer and pianist; Justin Bieber, the Canadian pop singer; actor Ron Howard; and acclaimed writer Ralph Ellison.
Additionally, several influential figures passed away on this date. Among them are Mina Miller Edison, wife of inventor Thomas Edison, and American novelist William Dean Howells.
