Heavener City Council agenda

Heavener City Council will meet in a regular business meeting 6 p.m. Thursday at Heavener’s City Hall at 103 East Avenue B in Heavener.

Early voting begins Thursday

Early voting begins today in 60 counties across the state. Some voters will have Board of Education primary elections and/or municipal races on the ballot. Others may have school and/or municipal propositions.

County questions will be decided in Johnston, Latimer, and Woodward counties. Meanwhile, voters in Creek, Noble, Osage, Pawnee and Payne counties have a House District 35 Special Election.

Early voting locations will be open Thursday, February 5 and Friday, February 6 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Voters are reminded that early voting locations are different than polling places. All counties have at least one designated early voting location. You must vote in the county where you are registered to vote. A list of early voting locations, dates, and times is available on the State Election Board website, along with the election list. Sample ballots are available in the OK Voter Portal

Voters should be prepared to show a valid proof of identity when checking in with election workers at their voting location. Voter with questions should contact their County Election Board or the State Election Board at (405) 521-2391 or [email protected]

OSSAA releases football classifications

OSSAA releases football classifications for the next two years.

Most of the teams stayed in the same classification although Spiro was bumped up to Class 2A-1 after going 0-10 in Class 2A-II.

Poteau remains in Class 4A. Heavener is still in Class 2A-1, likely grouped with three teams somehow dropping from 3A to 2A-I in Stigler, Eufaula and Checotah.

Panama and Pocola remain in A-I, again, somehow joined by Vian, which has reached the state finals in 2A-II the last two years and lost.

Arkoma stays in B-2 with most of the same schools from last year.
