VIAN — The Heavener High School basketball teams split their Black Diamond Conference road games with the Vian squads Thursday night at B.J. Traw Gymnasium.

The Lady Wolves (6-7) led wire to wire after seeing the Lady Wolverines (0-7) trim a double-digit deficit to three points in their Jan. 3 meeting at the Heavener Gym.
After the Lady Wolverines cut their deficit to 4-2 on a basket by Kiah Richardson with 6:30 left in the first quarter, it was all Lady Wolves from there.
The Lady Wolves went on a 17-7 run, capped by a pair of Lainie Faulkenberry baskets with 1:20 left in the period, to give Heavener a 21-9 lead.
Vian’s Emry Smith scored the last four points of the quarter to cut Heavener’s advantage to 21-13 after a period.
Another Smith basket for Vian cut its deficit to 21-15 with 7:14 left before halftime. That would be as close as the Lady Wolverines would get on this night.
The Lady Wolves ended the first half on a 21-4 run to take a 42-19 halftime lead, which became a 60-28 advantage at the end of three quarters.
Heavener built as much as a 35-point lead in the fourth quarter as a 3-point basket by Zaidi May put the Lady Wolves ahead 63-28 with 7:02 left to play.
For the game, the Wolves put a quartet of players into double figures, led by a game-high 18 points by Jaiklyn Rogers, followed by Mia Billings with 14 points and Tori Hill and May with 11 points apiece. Faulkenberry and Taylee Baker each scored five points, while Anistyn Cartwright added two points.

When the two teams met Jan. 3 in Heavener, the Wolves (4-9) almost were able to get a come-from-behind victory over the Wolverines (6-2), but that wasn’t the case Thursday night.
The Wolverines scored the game’s first six points en route to a 21-7 lead after a quarter.
The Wolves did cut their deficit to 13 points at 31-18 on a 3-point basket by Julian Sanchez with 2:25 left before halftime. That would be as close as Heavener got on this night as Vian took a 34-20 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.
After the Wolverines got their advantage to 55-31 after three quarters, they built as great as a 32-point lead on two occasions in the final period — with the last time coming with 4:46 left in the game as Vian’s Isaiah Owens scored a basket to put the Wolverines ahead 65-33.
Geren Palmer led Heavener with 11 points, followed by Julian Sanchez with eight points, Brandon Sanchez with seven points, Spencer Clubb with five points, Ben West with four points, Saul Silva with two points and Hayden McGee with a free throw.

Bob Bowman Sr. obituary
Today we gather to honor and remember the life of Bob Bowman Sr., a man whose roots ran deep in the soil of Heavener and whose life reflected hard work, service, faith, and devotion to his family.
Funeral service is 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hodgen First Baptist Church with Brother John Paul McAlester and Micah Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. View Cemetery in the Glendale Community, under the care of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.
Bob was born in Heavener on Dec. 12, 1937 to Buster and Lona Bowman. He was a lifelong resident of Heavener, a place he loved and proudly called home. He was a graduate of Heavener High School, Class of 1956, and carried that pride with him throughout his life. He later answered a greater call to serve his country as a veteran of the Vietnam War, a testament to his courage and sense of duty.
Service was a constant theme in Bob’s life. He was a member of the Heavener Kiwanis Club, always willing to give back to his community. He served many years as Chairman of the Farm Service Agency County Committee of LeFlore County, where his leadership and deep understanding of agriculture earned him great respect.
Many in the community knew Bob through his 20 years as a car salesman at Hembree Chevrolet in Heavener. Bob didn’t just sell cars—he built lasting relationships and friendships, always making people feel welcome and valued. was a longtime member of Hodgen Baptist Church, where his faith guided his life and where he found fellowship and purpose.
Above all else, Bob’s lifelong passion was ranching. He loved the land, the work, and especially caring for his cattle. Ranching was not just something he did—it was who he was. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, spending his time hunting, fishing, and baling hay. Some of his fondest memories were hunting and fishing trips with George and Curtis.
At the center of Bob’s life was his family. He was survived by his beloved wife, Kay, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage, a remarkable example of love, faith, and commitment. Bob had three wonderful children, two daughters Darali Mixon of Poteau and Jennifer Ritter and husband Chad of Heavener, and one son, Bob Bowman Jr., and wife Sarah of Poteau.
He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Haley and husband Will of Tahlequah; Derek, Devry, and Hagen Ritter of Heavener; Bobby Bowman III and Briley Bowman of Poteau - and a proud great-grandfather to Brenna Davenport of Tahlequah.
He is further survived by his brother-in-law George Dowell and wife Cathy of Poteau; his sister-in-law June Kelly and husband John of Heavener; his uncle Curtis Howze and wife Anne of Heavener; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were blessed to know and love him.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Buster Buck and Lona Jane Stacy Bowman; his brother, Harold; his son-in-law, Mark Mixon; and two special cousins and lifelong friends, Ed Bowman and Wendell Stacy, who held a special place in his heart.
Bob Bowman Sr. lived a life defined by integrity, hard work, faith, and love for his family and community. His legacy will continue through the lives he touched, the land he worked, and the values he passed on. If Heaven has cattle, we know Bob is up there working as a top hand for the Lord.
Pallbearers are his family. Honorary pallbearers are Derek Ritter, Hodgen FBC Men’s Sunday School Class, Jim Mixon, Frank Earven, and David Grubbs, Sr.
Viewing is from noon until 6 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
